Parking Spot Crash Near Funeral Home Kills Motorcyclist: York County Coroner (Update)

A 54-year-old motorcyclist has died four days after being involved in a crash near a funeral home parking lot, authorities announced on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.

Jeffrey Burke, of the first block of East King Street in York, died from a hemorrhage and multiple blunt force injuries at WellSpan York Hospital at 12:10 p.m. on Sunday, as certified by Deputy Coroner Scott Pennewill. 

His accidental death was caused by the crash in a parking spot located at 853 East Market Street, near Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, according to the coroner's release and Google Maps.

Burke was not wearing a helmet when he was struck by a vehicle that was backing out of a parking spot, police said. 

He was transported to Wellspan York Hospital with critical injuries, Coroner Pam Gay explained. 

An autopsy will not be performed, but a toxicology was obtained.
